Part II: Becoming an Exile
AKA: "Pissing Off a Bunch of Mages"

  1. Unlocking the Plans
  2. Destroy the Qeynosian Shield Generators
  3. Quick 'n Dirty Checklist Version

-= Unlocking the Plans =-
Your Bond imitation continues as your mini version of M, Towser Flizgibbert, sends you on a mission to infiltrate the Concordium building in South Qeynos to steal the super secret plans for the magic shield system. Everything up to this point has essentially been information gathering. Now is the time to take direct action against the interests of the city.

Towser Flizgibbert says to you,"Typical bureaucracy! They should have picked ME when they had the chance! We'll need to break into the lock box in the Mage Tower and get the schedule ourselves."
You say to Towser Flizgibbert,"Where's the box? I'll get it."
Towser Flizgibbert says to you,"Settle down, gnollslayer! The box is locked and you won't be able to just wander off with it. You'll need to take this key replicator and use it in the lock to get a good impression of it. And go at night, when it'll be harder for folks to see what you're doing."
You say to Towser Flizgibbert,"Sounds simple enough."

So you need to make a copy of the key used to unlock the box that contains the secret plans. There aren't any Home Depots on Norrath, so Mr. Short'n'Ugly provides you with a handy-dandy gnomish key replicator!

Looks like Towser doesn't understand the concept of "stealthy and ninja-like", as this key replicator is apparently the size and shape of a writing desk. No chance the mages will notice you dragging a damn desk through the halls of the Concordium building! Dumbass.

Towser Flizgibbert says to you,"When you get the impression, go back over to Arbuthnot Jumroller in the Baubbleshire. Mind you, he won't know you need this for any useful purpose, so don't tell him why you need it. Just tell him you're doing me a favor. Come back here when you're finished with everything."
You say to Towser Flizgibbert,"Arbuthnot's a locksmith?"
Towser Flizgibbert says to you,"One of the best, though he's put that behind him now to work on other projects. HE still thinks Queenie will fix all that's wrong with this city. I'm ready to leave this behind me and go where my skills are appreciated, that's what!"
You say to Towser Flizgibbert,"I'll take care of things."

If you've moved swiftly it should still be night time. Run to South Qeynos and enter the concordium building. Take the red teleporter on your right. Head down the stairs and to your right and you will find a small box on a table there. This is your target. Right-click the box and use the key replicator to make an impression of the lock for use in making a key.

Get out of the tower and hoof it to Baubbleshire. You need to take that key impression to Arbuthnot. You remember him? Yeah, the gnome-obsessed halfling with a leather fetish. Apparently he also dabbles in key-making.

You say, "Hail, Arbuthnot Jumroller"
Arbuthnot Jumroller says to you,"Well, then, what can I do for you?"
You say to Arbuthnot Jumroller,"Towser needs a key made."
Arbuthnot Jumroller says to you,"Good old Towser! I'm glad to see you're becoming friends with him, too. Especially after all he's been through! Let me see...yes, yes..."
You say to Arbuthnot Jumroller,"How long does this take?"
Arbuthnot Jumroller says to you,"Not too long at all, friend! Towser seems to lose keys every other day. He's a great guy, but I'm constantly having to make new keys for him. He must have a lock on every door and drawer in his house! Heh!"
You say to Arbuthnot Jumroller,"Um, yeah. Heh."
Arbuthnot Jumroller says to you,"There you go, right as rain!"
You say to Arbuthnot Jumroller,"Thank you."
You receive:

Arbuthnot Jumroller says to you,"Tell Towser that me and the missus hope he and the family can join us for supper again sometime soon."
You say to Arbuthnot Jumroller,"I'll pass that along."

Head back to the mage tower in South Qeynos and once again follow the red teleporter. Go downstairs to where the box is that you got the key impression from previously. You should now be able to open it to acquire the secret plans.

Encounter: a concordium guard
Upon grabbing the plans a concordium guard pops in to stop you. The guard spawns as a no-arrow solo encounter, equivelant to your level. It will be a random class of caster and should be easily dispatched.
(Note - The concordium guard doesn't always spawn if you accomplish this step of the quest during the night time hours, what with you being all stealthy.)

Now you've done it. You've gone and killed one of the city mages. Better take these plans back to Towser. He may know what to do.

You say, "Hail, Towser Flizgibbert"
Towser Flizgibbert says to you,"Well? What do you want?"
You say to Towser Flizgibbert,"Why do you have such a bad attitude?"
Towser Flizgibbert says to you,"Bad attitude? You call THIS a bad attitude? You should have seen me BEFORE I learned the truth about Queenie and her little schemes! What's it to you, anyway?"
You say to Towser Flizgibbert,"I was under the impression that the work we're involved in would make us somehow feel better."
Towser Flizgibbert says to you,"Friend, you're still all starry-eyed and misty-minded. Under HER influence! She must put something into the water. I bring my own, from Freeport, thank you, rather than drink HER swill."
You say to Towser Flizgibbert,"So why don't you just go to Freeport and stay there? Someone else can do this part of the job."
Towser Flizgibbert says to you,"What? And make me lose out on my commission? No, thank you! Well...don't dally, what did you learn? Did you get the box open?"
You say to Towser Flizgibbert,"Yes. Here are the papers."
Towser Flizgibbert says to you,"Great! We've no time to lose! Let's just hope your delays haven't cost us everything. Before you take care of things, clear out your inn room and vault. No sense leaving anything that might be used as evidence in case anything goes wrong. There's no turning back now. Are you ready to finish the job?"

By the bristling beard of Sean Connery! You've just handed over top secret Qeynos government defense plans to an enemy spy! End, Unlocking the Plans.

POINT OF NO RETURN
------------------
At this point you will be given the opportunity to turn back. Betrayal is not something that should be taken lightly and this is the part where you are warned as to what exactly will happen if you go forward from here. You will be kill-on-sight to both Qeynos and Freeport. You will lose anything that you leave in your vaults and home. When and if you are finally accepted in Freeport, your class will change to your Freeportian counterpart and all your spells and skills will be busted back down to Apprentice I quality, no matter how much cash you spent upgrading them and you may lose the ability to wear some of your gear. If this is all fine by you and you are willing to take on the life of an exile, enter your name into the box and accept the next quest.

-= Destroy the Qeynosian Shield Generators =-
You've committed yourself to betraying your Queen and your home. There's no turning back. Time to really piss 'em off and strike a crippling blow to their fancy-schmancy new defense system.

As soon as you accept the quest you are zoned into a special instanced version of the concordium building called "The Qeynos Mage Tower". You will appear just inside the entrance flanked by two other revolutionaries who are collectively almost as useless as a ranger. Despite your efforts at keeping a low profile throughout the course of this quest it appears that you were expected. [Editor's note: Perhaps you nicked a wall with the gigantic executive roll-top desk that you dragged through here earlier, genius.]

Encounter: Augerer Vharlan
Confronting you at the entrance is Augerer Vharlan, and he looks none too happy about your presence here. Augerer Vharlan spawns as a no-arrow solo encounter that is equivelant to your level. He is an enchanter-style caster and likes to bust out with a variety of stuns. Feed him a heaping bowl of ass-kick stew.

When Augerer Vharlan is defeated he will drop a chest containing 3 colored eggs.

You will notice that the teleporters in the tower are not functioning. The eggs work in tandem as a sort of key to repower the teleporters. In the room you will find 3 tables with colored eggs already on them. You must place the eggs that dropped from Augerer Vharlan on these tables in proper order to activate the different teleporters (See Egg Placement for Complete Retards).

As you activate each teleporter, enter them to be transported to the different areas of the building. Each area is populated with concordium novitates. None of them like you very much and the will attack on sight. They will be random caster-types and range from one level below you to equal level. None of them see through invisibility so if you have a method to make yourself invisible, use it and you will be finished in a few short minutes. If you don't have the means to invis yourself, you'll just have to fight through them. It's not terribly challenging, just time-consuming.

In each section of the building that you access by going through the three different teleporters, you will see one of these babies:

These are the shield generators. Sparkly glass balls in iron stands. Yes. This entire quest has been about smashing up what amounts to something that you can acquire at any good lawn decoration store. In any case, right-click the shield generator to destroy it then head back to the lobby to activate the next teleporter and move on to the next section.

Egg Placement for Complete Retards

Once all three shield generators have been destroyed, return to the lobby one final time.

You are greeted in the lobby by the sight of your two useless pals laying on the ground, having been beaten senseless by an entourage of Qeynos city guards lead by Augerer Galain.

SWEET SASSY MOLASSY, YER GONNA GET A WHUPPIN'!
Approach the surly-looking crew of angry Qeynosians to initiate the short and sweet beatdown.

Augurer Galain says, "The life of a traitor is forfeit!"

At this point your faction standing with The city of Qeynos is immediately sent crashing down to absolute rock-bottom. Your faction standing with "Exile" cranks up to indifferent. You are also given a suffix title on your name, "the Exiled", which you cannot change so long as you are unaligned with either city. At this point you are also immediately zoned into Haven, the exile refuge.

You know what they say. You can't go home again. End, Destroy the Qeynosian Shield Generators.
