Part III: Making Nice with Freeport
AKA: "Look, kids! Big Ben!"
AKA: "Gol M`Tun's Bitch"

-= Welcome to Haven =-
So you've killed citizens, sabotaged city property, and sold government defense secrets to spies. What you got for your efforts was a Class A beatdown.** So how come you are alive and in a funky cave instead of in prison somewhere? Glad you asked, sparky.

** Unless you betrayed from Kelethin in which case you...broke a few heirlooms and..uh...got a stern talking to. You rebel, you.

You have entered Haven.
Scout Elrohir says, "Are you feeling better, friend?"
You say, "Hail, Scout Elrohir"
Scout Elrohir says to you,"Hello, Imblowinthis. I'm glad you are up and moving around. You took quite a hit to the head, we didn't expect you to survive."
You say to Scout Elrohir,"What happened?"
Scout Elrohir says to you,"My scouting party and I ambushed a group of guards. We killed them all and took a look in their wagon. We found you and two others inside of it. Unfortunately, the others were dead when we found you, but you were still breathing... barely. So, we brought you here."
You say to Scout Elrohir,"The last thing I remember is trying to flee the Mage Tower and being confronted by a Magus."
Scout Elrohir says to you,"You must've made someone very angry... When we found you, you were really beaten up. I guess they didn't take kindly to you being there. I doubt you could go back there safely now. If I were you I would stay underground for awhile."
You say to Scout Elrohir,"I guess that's the best idea. Where am I, anyways?"
Scout Elrohir says to you,"You are in Haven. We have established a neutral city, underground free from the influences of either Freeport or Qeynos. We are all people who didn't like being ruled over. We govern ourselves and live by our own standards. Besides being a little dank down here, I think we have made a nice home. Kivrin can tell you more about the city. I need to get back to my patrol. Imblowinthis, I really am glad you survived."
You say to Scout Elrohir,"Thank you."

After getting the recap from Scout Elrohir, you are free to explore your new home. Haven contains most of the amenities of Qeynos. You'll find a banker, a broker, class trainers, tradeskill stations and vendors, a mender and even a guild registrar. Haven is lacking in a few distinct areas, however. First of all, you do not get your own personal housing here. Also, travel can be a hassle, especially for lower level exiles. The exits and entrances to and from Haven are few, and often leave you out in dangerous, inconvenient locations. Take this time to acclimate yourself to the area. Explore. Get a feel for where things are. This may be your home for awhile, so get familiar with it. The cave system isn't complex, but you can still waste a hefty chunk of time running about aimlessly because you took a wrong tunnel.

When you are done settling into your new home, speak to Kivrin Feirling. She will be hanging out right there by Scout Elrohir with a big <Hospitality> sign above her head. She can answer many of the questions that some of you may have about the Haven community. However the most important thing that you can ask her is, "What can I do to gain favor with Freeport?" She promptly directs you to Antonica, and to your taskmaster for the forseeable future.

No, you can't share my cot. End, Welcome to Haven.

-= Your Pal Gol =-
Now that you have completely ruined any chance at being welcomed to Antonia's summer picnic, it's time to start kissing up to Big Billy Badass, Lucan D`Lere. And what better way to do that than some good old-fashioned destruction, eh?

This shifty-looking fellow is Gol M`Tun. Gol is located at about -30, -14, -55 in Antonica, hanging out next to a tree down the path a ways from the northernmost Qeynos gate. He directs you and your fellow exiles in your quest to gain favor with Freeport and The Overlord. He has plenty of tasks for you, of varying type and difficulty. Each successfully completed task that you get under your belt will raise your standing with the City of Freeport and lower your standing with other, far less important factions. There are five distinct types of task that Gol M`Tun has for you.

Below I will go into greater detail about the different types of tasks (especially the "Really Show Them Your Loyalty" class of missions). For now, here is a quick reference of the different types of tasks that you can request from Gol M`Tun and their resulting faction adjustments. They are as follows:

Sabotage in Antonica - These tasks involve minor vandalism of various items in Antonica and occasionally the killing of insignificant peons.
Faction adjustments: +1,000 to Freeport, -1,000 to Qeynos

Sabotage in the Villages - These tasks involve minor vandalism of various items as well, but this time the targets are in the various villages surrounding Qeynos (Baubbleshire, Castleview Hamlet, etc.). Additionally, these tasks have a 20 minute time limit for completion.
Faction adjustments: +2,000 to Freeport, -2,000 to Qeynos

Sabotage in Qeynos - These tasks involve major vandalism or theft of various items inside Qeynos proper. These tasks have a 30 minute time limit.
Faction adjustments: +3,000 to Freeport, -4,000 to Qeynos

Really show your loyalty - This class of task involves the killing of Qeynos citizens and the destruction of major, valuable assets within the city. These tasks take place in special instanced zones located throughout Qeynos.
Faction adjustments: +5,000 to Freeport, -5,000 to Qeynos, -300 to a specific city faction

Bounties - Gol M`Tun has a list of people that just need killin'. There are 16 different bounties that need to be collected, in a specific order. When you choose a bounty task, you are given an approximate location of your target. When you arrive at or near this location, your victim will spawn as an equivelant-level mob and attack you. Kill them and return to Gol M`Tun for your faction adjustment and to get the next bounty.
Faction adjustments: +3,000 to Freeport, -4,000 to Qeynos

When you begin the factioning process, your standing with Freeport will be at -50,000, which is as low as you can get. Your target faction standing to be able to move on and enter the city of Freeport is +10,000 (AKA: "amiable").

-= Sabotage in Antonica =-
These acts of vandalism and treachery all take place in Antonica. They are low risk and involve a lot of running around looking for groundspawns. This is the lowest tier of faction quests that Gol M`Tun has. Frankly with the low faction payoff and the tedium of running around Antonica searching for these items, I recommend avoiding this tier of faction quests altogether.

Sabotage: Cut off the Cure!
You must burn 5 crates of herbs that are strewn about Antonica. These crates can spawn near the lighthouse, around the merchant area between the two Qeynos gates, or at the Inn near Archer's Woods.

Sabotage: Lost without a Light
You must burn 5 tents that are strewn about in random locations as campsites throughout Antonica.

Sabotage: Picking my Prey
Get it? Pick? Miner? I GET JOKES! Ahem. Anyway, this task is simply to go out into Antonica and find yourself overland miners to kill. You can find them scattered throughout Antonica, wherever you see big grey rocks sticking out of the ground.

Sabotage: Halt the Expansion
This mission requires you to kill several overland woodcutters. These sad little punching bags are found all over Antonica, uselessly wailing away at trees while never seeming to make any progress on getting the tree to fall. This task is timed. You have 10 minutes to find and kill your quota of woodcutters.

Sabotage: Straw on Fire
Similar to Cut off the Cure!, this task involves you running about Antonica looking for groundspawns. This time they are hay bales. They can be found near any of the various patches of farm land strewn about the zone. Wherever you see farmers and killer scarecrows, you should find hay bales.

Sabotage:The Tainted Apples
This task has two parts. First, you must swipe a supply of poison. The poison can sometimes be located behind the Inn near Archer's Wood. After the poison is in your posession you must use it to ruin several crates of apples. The crates can be found near Mariner's Island, Gnollslayer Keep, and the merchant tents between the two Qeynos gates.

Sabotage: You Lost Your Bait
Another "click on random objects" task. This time your targets are buckets of fishing bait that can be found from time-to-time on beaches and shores near the various waterways around Antonica.

Sabotage: Sealed Lips
It seems there are some farmers that are reporting on agents of Freeports' movements within Antonica. Your job is to shut them up. Kill some traitorous farmers which are found anywhere that you see a patch of tilled farmland within Antonica. This is usually a swfit mission as there is one such patch of farmland not far from Gol M`Tun.

Sabotage: The Hungry Explorers
Yet another "click on random objects" task. This time it is camp site cooking kettles. Look for camp sites, genius.

Oooh! Yeah! You...give that fisherman a...bad day..you rebel, you. End, Sabotage in Antonica.

-= Sabotage in the Villages =-
These missions focus on the racial home villages surrounding Qeynos. This includes Castleview hamlet, The Baubbleshire, Nettleville Hovel, The willow Wood, and Starcrest Commune. Similar to the Antonican tasks, these generally involve locating and destroying a certain number of randomly spawned stationary objects. All of these quests are under a 20 minute time limit so be swift. Also, because these take place within the outer walls of the city, you will have guards to contend with. The added risk makes the faction rewards greater for this tier of missions.

IMPORTANT - Keep in mind that the guards hate you now. And no matter your level, there will be some guards that you cannot defeat in combat by yourself. Some of the guards are up to level 70, Epicx3 and x4 encounters. In the past guards would simply eject you from the city. Now they will just kill you and be done with it. All of the sabotage quests from this point forward take place inside the city in some fashion. Get used to keeping and eye out for and avoiding guards or you will accumulate a hefty repair bill over time. I'm not going to go into detail about how to sneak in and out of the city, or what guards are placed are placed where. I'm here to give you the information you need to become a productive citizen of Freeport. I'm not here to push you around in a stroller like a damn paladin. You have been warned. Keep alert and don't be stupid and you'll fine.

There is not much to say about this tier of quests. You click on randomly spawned objects strewn about the various villages. There isn't a whole lot of detail to be given. I will elaborate where I feel necessary, but really this tier is self-explanatory.

Sabotage: The Latest Fashions
You must destroy a number of clothing racks within the villages.

Sabotage: Delicates
Large vases found throughout the villages.

Sabotage: The Absence of Light
Crates of candles. Represented as simple boxes.

Sabotage: Destroy the Silver Shipment
This one can be a pain in the ass. It's a two part task. First you have to find a bottle of chlorine with which to ruin the silver. This is represented as a small flask that can be located randomly throughout the villages. People have reported having trouble locating the chlorine. Once you do locate the bottle you then must find five boxes of silver to dump it on. These appear randomly as simple wooden boxes.

Sabotage: Sober and Sour
Supplies of ale.

Sabotage: Long Range Defense
Destroy supplies of archery equipment. Represented as simple wooden boxes.

Sabotage: Supply and Demand
Time to bust up some merchant display cases.

Sabotage: Heartless
If you ruin boxes full of roses, the Qeynosians will have to work harder to get all lovey-dovey with each other! [Editor's note: You have got to be kidding me.] Represented as simple wooden boxes.

Tired of running back and forth through Peat Bog yet? You have no idea! End, Sabotage in the Villages.

-= Sabotage in Qeynos =-
Time to step up the operations. This tier of missions takes place in Qeynos proper. This includes North Qeynos, South Qeynos, Elddar Grove, and Qeynos Harbor. These quests are identical to the quests that take place in the villages so don't expect too much detail. Only the items that you are destroying and their locations have changed. Increased guard presence makes the faction rewards for this tier slightly higher.

Sabotage: Toxic Bread
This one is a two-parter, similar to destroying the silver shipments in the previous tier. First you need to locate a beaker full of lye. Once this is in your posession you need to find 5 sacks of flour to contaminate.

Sabotage: The Singed Scrolls
Crates of scrolls. Represented as simple wooden boxes.

Sabotage: Flora
Burn stacks of books used to train gatherers in foraging.

Sabotage: The Stolen Payroll
Chests of cash meant to be used for paying the guards' salary.

Sabotage: Bookkeeping
You have to destroy merchant ledgers. This will be located indoors, laying on the counters in the various retail shops throughout the city.

Sabotage: Creating an Imbalance
Destroy a weapons rack. This is another two-parter. Look indoors throughout the city for a vial of acid on a shelf or table. Once you obtain this, go out and find a weapons rack to dump it on.

Sabotage: Out of Duck
Sacks of duck feed. Represented as large burlap sacks on the ground.

Tedium! It's whats for dinner! End, Sabotage in Qeynos.

-= Really Show Your Loyalty =-
Now we're talkin'! This tier of missions provides the largest faction adjustment available. Tasks involve the destruction of specific, high-value targets in special instanced zones within Qeynos and the assassination of key citizens of the city. Because these are no longer simple "click-n-destroy" missions, I will be going into much greater detail to walk you through each one.

In addition to the faction adjustments, the instances that are the focus of these missions are scaled to match your level and you can walk away with a nice chunk of experience from doing these. These tasks get you the most bang for your traitorous buck. If you want to get into Freeport sooner rather than later, I highly suggest that you focus most of your attention on this tier of faction quests.

:: Close the Door Behind You ::
Additional Faction Adjustment: -300 to the Concordium
For this mission you have been ordered to assassinate a concordium summoner in the basement of the Qeynos Mage Tower. Sneak into South Qeynos and make your way to the Mage Tower. Behind the tower and across the little moat you will find the instance entrance.

When you zone in you will find the area populated with casters of varying type. The stairs directly ahead of you lead up to where your target, the summoner, is waiting. Unfortunately for you there is a magical ward blocking the path up the stairs. Off to your right will be a door leading ito a small courtyard area. Here you will find a concordium keeper. Kill the keeper to obtain a signature token that allows you to pass through the magical barrier. Make your way upstairs.

At the top of the stairs you will find a door. Pass through and enter a room where you will find the summoner preparing to call something nasty. There will be a concordium guard to the right of the summoner who can be avoided completely if you move to the left side of the room and body-pull the summoner. Pull and kill the summoner. After your victim goes down, you'll find that his spell completed despite your efforts.

A portal beast spawns in the center of the room. He appears as an equal-levelled single up-arrow solo encounter. His aggro radius is freakishly small despite his size. If you fought the summoner at the edge of the room the portal beast will not attack you when he spawns, giving you time to rest and regenerate if you need. Kill the portal beast to complete the instance. Return to Antonica and report back to Gol M`Tun for your faction reward.

:: Spreading the Truth ::
Additional Faction Adjustment: -300 to the Celestial Watch
A new sect of the Celestial Watch is holding their first meeting in...the basement of a clothing store? Terrific. Let's spread some love by replacing their sermon with one carefully crafted by the Dismal Rage. Social subversion through religious zealotry! It's FAN-tastic!

The zone-in for this instance is located on the side of the Clothspinners building in North Qeynos. Once you zone in you will find yourself in a lobby filled with "waiting attendants". Over on the left you will see the snack table with refreshments all laid out, complete with punch bowl. Qeynosians are so Martha Stewart, it's adorable. Now, if you kill too many attendants someone might get suspicious ("Hey, Wally. Paul, Bob, Steve, Aaron and Rick are all laying in a bloody heap in the middle of the room. I think there may be shennanigans afoot. ...Wally?"). The attendants wander around a bit and have a ridiculously tiny aggro radius so you can navigate the edges of this room without getting attacked. If need be, you can get away with killing two or three of them. Enter the room to your left and you will find a celestial watch ecclesiastic. He will be meditating and non-aggro. Simply walk up behind him and right-click him to steal a key.

Exit back out to the main lobby. Make your way up the stairs here and use the key to unlock the door in front of you. On entering you will see a book stand guarded by two more attendants. These are the only two attendants that you can't avoid completely unless you can become invisible. Walk up, click this book and replace the sermon. Mission accomplished. At this point, if you are so inclined, you can slaughter every attendant in the building and nobody will get suspicious at all. Or you can just leave. This mission is the only mission that allows you to bypass all combat with invisibility. Even without invisibility you can sneak in for the key, run upstairs click the book, and run back out the entrance door without taking too much damage or stopping to fight. However you go about it, return to Antonica and to Gol M`Tun for your faction reward.

:: Practice Makes Perfect ::
Additional Faction Adjustment: -300 to the Qeynos Guard
Apparently the Qeynos Guard took a page out of Tyler Durden's playbook and decided to start their own little Fight Club in order to toughen each other up for their hard days of walking slowly around the streets of Qeynos with their swords drawn and getting kittens down from trees. Your goal is to infiltrate the club, snag yourself a ticket to enter the ring, and kill off a few combatants to weaken the Guard's ranks.

The zone-in for this instance is sort of a pain in the ass to get to the first time, but once you find it you will have no problem. Sneak into North Qeynos and make your way along the riverway past the bridge that leads to Antonia's castle. The quest journal tells us that the entrance is under the castle bridge, but this isn't entirely accurate. Continue up the riverway from the bridge a short distance and you will see a small dock. The entrance to the fight club is located here. Be warned, there is a level 50 ^^^ heroic guard and a level 50 ^^^ heroic dog parked right next to the instance entrance. If you approach the dock and instance entrance from the water you will not be able to avoid detection. If you approach the entrance from the stairs above however, you can make your way close enough to enter the instance without being seen. Keep this in mind if you are a lower level betrayer.

The fight club instance is populated mostly with physical fighters. Directly ahead of you is a ticket taker who will not allow you up the stairs to the arena until you have obtained an arena ticket. To your left will be a door that leads into a small room. The room will have two fighters, one of them being a monk-style fighter called an awaiting contestant. This is your ticket holder. Kill the awaiting contestant to obtain an arena ticket.

(Note: You will actually get 2 arena tickets; one as a quest reward and one that the awaiting contestant drops. It's just an odd bug that doesn't really affect anything, so don't go all ranger and freak out or anything)

After you obtain the arena ticket(s), head past the ticket taker and up the stairs. There will be five unattackable NPCs standing around a circle in the middle of the room. The one you are concerned with for the moment is The Arena Master. Talk to The Arena Master to start a dialogue that initiates a series of arena battles. First, one of the NPCs in the room will become aggro and attack you. After you distpatch it speak to The Arena Master again. Now the second arena combatant will attack you. Kill this tool and again, talk to The Arena Master. Next, the last two arena combatants will become aggro and attack you at the same time. Defeat them and speak to The Arena Master one final time. The Arena Master will become aggro and attack you. Kill it to complete the instance. Report back to Gol M`Tun for your faction reward. [Editor's note: The various dialogues that you have with The Arena Master throughout this encounter are absolutely killer. I highly suggest taking the time to read the conversations instead of just "clicking-thru".]

:: Alchemical Hazards ::
Additional Faction Adjustment: -300 to the Ironforge Exchange
Apparently those damn Qeynos crafters have come up with some sort of alchemical concoction that can be used against Freeport. We can't have that. It's up to us to get in there, slaughter some crafters, and ruin the fruits of their hard work. [Editor's note: Just don't let Niami find out. You don't want to know what she'll do to you with that rolling pin. It's frightening, I swear.] Work your way through North Qeynos to the 'Call to Arms' shop. The instance entrance is right up against the backside of this building.

This instance is littered with guards and crafters. Unlike the other instances and scaled mobs that you have been exposed to up to this point, some of the stationary guards here can even be heroic-class encounters, so be very careful. Also, there is a sergeant who patrols the upper floor, the staircase, and the main workroom below. Unlike the stationary guards and the crafters, the sergeant will continue to respawn after you kill him. Just something to keep in mind. Work your way down stairs and enter the second door on your right. This leads to the scribing room. In this room you will find an NPC named Scribe Bogfizzle. Kill this gnomish caster and take the alchemical recipe that is fluttering on the bench behind her to update your quest.

Recipe in hand, head back out to the main hall and take a right-hand turn to the very back of the room. The door here leads back to the blacksmithing room. Two ironforge blacksmiths will be here, sweating at the forges. Search the shelves and divders here for a bottle of used smithing temper. The bottle is dark and translucent and can at times be difficult to spot, so keep your eyes peeled.

After obtaining the used temper go back out to the bottom of the stairs that lead up to the top floor. Behind the base of the stairs will be a door leading to the alchemists' room. Here you will find a large barrel containing your final target, the alchemical mixture. Click the barrel to taint the mixture with the used temper you found back at the forges. This completes the instance. Head back out to Antonica to speak with Gol M`Tun and get your faction reward.

NOTE: This instance is ridiculously easy to complete if you are of a class that has the means to make themselves invisible. Scribe Bogfizzle is the only NPC in the instance that can see through invisibility. If you can invis yourself, do so before entering the instance. Enter, run down the stairs to the scribe room, kill Bogfizzle, take the recipe, re-invis, run to the forge, grab the temper, run to the alchemy room, taint the barrel and leave. You are in-and-out in just a couple minutes with almost no resistence.

:: The Seed of Tunarbos ::
Additional Faction Adjustment: -300 to the Tunarian Alliance
The Tunarian Alliance has a li'l tree that was sprouted off of Tunarbos, The World Tree. Wouldn't it just really tear them up if something were to happen to it? Time to piss in those tree-huggers' Wheaties. We got ourselves a tree to burn.

Sneak into Elddar Grove and go around to the side of the archery shop right near the Down Below grate. Here you will find the instance entrance. After zoning in you will notice a door in front of you and stairs off to the left. You cannot go through the door just yet so make your way up the stairs. The room on the second floor house three tunarian fighters and a tunarian alliance warden, who can be found in the back corner of the room, hiding behind a bookshelf. When killed, the warden will drop a sack on the ground which contains a key for you to loot.

After grabbing the key, head back downstairs. In the corner of the main room you will see a stove manned by a tunarian alliance chef. Next to the stove on top of a barrel is an item that you will need, a bottle of cooking oil.

Grab the bottle of cooking oil and head to the door. You will need to right-click and select "Unlock" on the door before you will be able to open it. On the other side of the door you will see a small fence seperating you from your target, the tree. Behind the tree is a barrel that will be used to set off the blaze. Click it once to seed it with the cooking oil and follow that up with a right-click to light the fuse. The li'l tree will go up in flames to complete the instance. Report back to Gol M`Tun for your faction reward.

NOTE: This mission is unbelievably quick if you have the means to make yourself invisible. Absolutely nothing in this instance can see through invis. If you are able, invis yourself before entering the instance. Run upstairs and go behind the bookshelf and kill the warden (the other mobs in the room will not aggro at this distance, if you stay far enough back in the corner). Loot the key, re-invis, run back downstairs, grab the cooking oil, unlock and go through the door, light up the barrel and get out of there. You can do this instance from start to finish in under 2 minutes, easily.

So at what point did you start committing suicide to make the trip back to Gol M`Tun faster? You know you did. End, Really Show Them Your Loyalty.

-= Bounty Hunting =-
Tired of sneaking into Qeynos? Want to see the rest of the world? Do you just enjoy killin'? Gol M`Tun has a list of folk who have raised the ire of the Overlord and good coin is being paid for their heads. Unfortunately you, not being a citizen of Freeport cannot collect the coin on these bounties, but if you do the jobs for Gol he may just put in a good word for you with the city.

The bounties are given to you, one at a time, in a specific order. Unlike the other faction quests, you cannot keep re-hailing Gol in order to get the mission you want. He will simply offer you the same bounty repeatedly until you give up, or accept it. There are sixteen total bounties to be collected. Each bounty offers a nice faction adjustment for what is a relatively simple task. The trade-off is that there is some travel involved.

When you accept a bounty you are given a zone and an approximate location of your target. When you arrive near this location your victim will spawn, scaled to your level, and attack you. Kill them and return to Gol in Antonica to collect your faction reward and to get the next bounty.

-= An Invitation to Freeport =-
You've done it. You've reached amiable status (+10,000 or better with The City of Freeport faction) with Freeport. Your efforts are finally to be rewarded with an invitation to enter Freeport and hold audience with a city official. Speak with Gol M`Tun.

You say, "Hail, Gol M'Tun"
Gol M'Tun says to you,"The Queen can hear the screams of terror around her, my illustrious friend. Soon she will be unable to hide from your blade of vengeance."
You say to Gol M'Tun,"I have completed a task."
Gol M'Tun says to you,"How delightful! It will not be long before all of Qeynos will know its folly in having followed that villianess Antonia."
You say to Gol M'Tun,"Indeed."
Gol M'Tun says to you,"Imblowinthis, I have heard from authorities in Freeport. They are impressed with your actions and are willing to allow you the chance to earn citizenship. Now you really have to prove yourself to Freeport."
[Editor's note: At this point in the conversation you are given the option to accept the invitaton or continue factioning. If you decide you aren't ready to take the next step and go to Freeport, you will have to repeat this conversation on each subsequent time you speak with Gol until you tell him that you are ready.]
You say to Gol M'Tun,"I'm ready."
Gol M'Tun says to you,"Good, go see Matthias Siegemaker in the Temple of War in North Freeport. Don't keep him waiting, he is not a patient man."
You say to Gol M'Tun,"I won't."

You may now enter the city of Freeport. Freeport Militia members will no longer kill you on sight. You can enter any area of the city. Your only limitation on travel is that the mariner bells will not have East Freeport as an option just yet. And don't let the guards startle you. While they won't attack you they will still react to your presence as if you are an enemy, shout at you, draw their weapons and so forth. Enter the city and find Matthias Siegemaker to start the final leg of your journey to becoming a citizen of Freeport.
